Testing the Hypothesis, Part 2

Opportunity:  My opportunity consists of installing more electric car charging stations around the Gainesville area because right now they are only a few around the city. My plan would be to install some in the high traffic areas, such as the Oaks mall, and Haile plantation areas that don't already have these charging stations. Therefore, individuals who are in need of a charger do not have to rely on going to a certain area or place by having to plan their trips in the Gainesville around charging stations.

Who:

There are currently individuals who have a need for this service, but fall outside of the certain boundary because they have vehicles that can run on either an electric charge or gasoline, which most of the time are hybrid vehicles. Therefore, they don't necessarily have the need all of the time for car charging stations.

What:

The need I have identified about having more car-charging stations is different from the need of gasoline for cars because the need for gasoline is more attainable in the Gainesville area, and around the U.S. in general.

Why:

The need is different for individuals outside the boundary because it is something that does not directly affect them, so it is not a top priority for he or she to have more car charging stations in the Gainesville area.

Inside the boundary
Outside the boundary
Individuals who own electric cars
Individuals who own gasoline cars. (Diesel, Regular, Premium, etc.)
Car-Charging Stations
No need for Car-Charging Stations
Need more in certain areas of Gainesville
Hybrid cars that can use both gasoline and charging stations

  1. Patrick,

This opportunity is geared towards an esoteric community now but eventually will most likely become more prevalent especially with the push towards going more green to protect the environment. I think forecasting into the future and getting started early is more important than jumping on the bandwagon later. I think another place for you to venture towards would be to determine if there is a paucity of charging stations at the airport as that could become valuable terrain in the future.

  2. Hey patrick! I think your idea is awesome! Anyone with an electric car is definitely in need of this type of station, but I believe that the Gainesville area shouldn't be your main focus. While there are students and people in the Gainesville area, I believe that this would be more successful in a more populated place where their is more wealth and or an area where electric cars are more prevalent.

  3. Patrick,

Like I said in your previous post, you're heading in the correct direction with this idea. It may still be a little ahead of its time, but we will not know until more resources become available. Gainesville is going to be one of the best places to try this out in the state. Very well job, but you probably will lose points for not having the recordings of the interviews. I see the thought process that went into it though, good job!

  4. I like this idea a lot. I don't have an electric car but I've heard that Tesla is really ramping up production, so an opportunity like this might be in high demand soon. I'd like to know how you would go about implementing a solution like this. It seems like a hard market to enter, and I'd like to know if you would be lobbying a company like Tesla to install these, or if you would make your own venture.

  5. Yeah I think this is definitely something that should be done. Even if there aren't many people who fall inside the boundary currently the market for electric cars is growing rapidly and within the next 20 to 30 years we might see a major shift. So these installations would prove helpful to current electric car owners, and maybe convince others to make the switch as well.

  6. Patrick,

This good idea, electric cars are soon to become cheaper in near future. In turn, college students will be able to afford it and will need more stations around Gainesville, as of now you can target the older crowd who have electric cars in the area to jump start idea.

  7. Patrick,

This is definitely a need that will become more prevalent in the future. You could also target companies who are also looking to implement a sustainability plan to have at their facilities for their employees or customers. We have a company here in Jacksonville that installed an electric charging station in their parking lot for the public and customers. This is the link to an article about it. http://www.bizjournals.com/jacksonville/news/2015/04/22/can-a-parking-lot-change-help-patient-health.html

  8. Patrick,
As a gas-only car user, I have never even noticed that Gainesville has car-charging ports. I don't often think of electric or hybrid cars, but if I were to notice car-charging ports at the gas stations or places that I frequent, I'm sure I would get more interested in them. I think that along with making life easier for electric-car owners, installing more charging stations in frequented spots would create more of an awareness of and an interest in electric cars - which would be great for our planet. There could be some added benefits to your idea.

  9. Patrick,
I definitely think this is a great idea! It may be a little ahead of its time, but that’s the time to start looking into and developing a possible opportunity because that’s when there is little competition. We are definitely on a trend away from gasoline cars. I would have been very interested to hear your interviews for this. Overall good job!
